KEEP MOVING!

I see some of you are still moving! GREAT JOB!! Don't forgot to log in your miles/hours/laps, etc I will not be going to St. George for the walk in November. I know Linda and her family are still going and possibly others. Unfortunately my knee is not doing well and still have to do minimal walking. I'm planning on having surgery next Spring so no walking for me. Keep up the good work everyone and still continue to log things in. I won't be doing the blog for awhile (what's new with that:) but I do hope you will all continue moving and logging it in. Once we hit China/ Japan, we'll have another party. In the meantime, I'm so proud of you all and wish you the best. Thanks for all your love and support!

We had a fun party last week and thanks to those who came. We hope to have more come to the luau. More details will come.

We are so blessed to live in this beautiful country and to enjoy it's freedoms. Our founding fathers were inspired of God to write and sign the Declaration of Independence. I pray that we will continue to be a nation under God and to recognize His hand in everything. Have fun and be safe!

Long Time No Write:)

It's been over a week since my last post. My knee is a little better but not healing as fast as I want. Everyone else is doing great! We have a few more who have joined us so great work everyone! We have about 800 more units until we have walked across America!!!! This is fabulous!

There's a 5K/10k, half marathon in Farmington on Saturday, July 10th. For the 5K/10K there's an early registeration prior to July 8th for $18 and starts at 6:45am.
The 1/2 marathon is $30 and starts at 6:30am. The registration fee includes a teeshirt and a free breakfast afterwards. We did it last year and it was really fun.

We think we may have the walking across America party the night before, Friday, July 9th or possibly the week before. Not quite sure but I'll keep you posted.

Great job everyone! Keep up the good work and keep smiling:)

YES WE CAN!

It's another week so hope you are all well and happy. I've been doing stretching exercises with my knee, but the pain wasn't getting better so I felt I better go to the doctor. I limped, or more like wobbled, to the elevator, as the stairs are too painful right now. Limped to his office where he looked at my knee, bent my knee then he jerked it and boy, I about screamed in pain. He sent me to xray. I wobbled to xray where my knee was jerked around again. After taking 3 xrays I wobbled back to the doctor's where he was able to instantly see my xrays. I have a fractured knee cap and a torn ligament! Just Kidding.ha ha! Now I feel like a wimp as I only have inflammation and thinning cartilage on the one side of the knee joint. It's almost bone on bone but enough cartilage to last me, hopefully 21 years until I get on Medicare to pay for surgery. I don't think it will last that long, but anyway, no more stairs for me per doctor's orders. Walking is to be minimal until the inflammation goes down and if it still bothers me after the anti-inflammatory medication then I need to see an orthopedic surgeon. I think I would rather deal with the pain. Stairs are grueling on the knees so be careful. Both of Sally's knees are bothering her, so no more stairs for Sally.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 10th! It's the Farmington 5K/10K walk/run. You can register on Active.com or on Farmington's Website. I'll post the website next week. We did it last year and it's a beautiful walk and quite flat and easy. I was able to do the 5K in 1 hour 9 minutes so this year I'm hoping to get under an hour. Afterwards then we'll have our 4th of July celebration for Walking Across America! We can do it and we are doing it! YES WE CAN!! Way to go everyone! Also, thank you for the wonderful and positive comments! You are all an inspiration to me! Thank you and love you!

Keep Going!

Hope everyone is happy and healthy! We are half way there to our goal of Walking across America!
We are passing through Kansas and still moving forward. Jeff has made a fun map of our progress so click on it when you enter your information on the fitness entry form. You may be surprised to see your picture on the map. There's even a picture of Dad in a jazzy scooter, but I don't think that counts:) Jeff, thank you for all your hard work and dedication on this fun adventure! Everyone is doing great and hopefully feeling great! We should reach our goal by June so mark your calendars for the 4th of July for a big celebration! I think we should just keep moving and continue with Walking with Wendy WORLD WIDE! We can make it around the globe! We'll need everyone's help but we can do it! It's only 24,902 miles so once we reach our goal of America we are 1/8 finished with the earth. I'm feeling a little over-ambitious:)

My knee is still quite painful so I'm giving it one more week before I see the doctor. This knee has troubled me for years and I think climbing so many stairs at a time was too much. Sally's knee is also bothering her and Janet bruised the top of her foot from going up the stairs just on the balls of her feet. Walking works best for us. I did some walking at BYU last week but not as much as I wanted to. It has been frustrating because I was doing so well and now with this knee problem.:( It was a little better today so I'm hoping by Monday I'll be able to join my co-workers on our walks. AJ injured his ankle a month ago and he's still going and Mom and her knee problems and she's still going, and Dad with his hip problems. So it's good not to give up and to keep moving. I keep thinking that I'm trying to do this goal and so afraid I'm not going to make it and let people down but I need to remember the following thought for the day...

Week Repreve

Hope everyone is out enjoying this beautiful spring weather! I'm taking a week repreve from doing the stairs as I injured my knee on Thursday. I'm doing a little bit of walking just to keep it moving but nothing strenous as I'll be walking alot this Thursday & Friday at the BYU Women's conference I'll be attending. It's quite frustrating as I've been doing so well walking and climbing stairs and now this but I'll be fine, just need to give my knee a break for a few days. I'm doing several stretching exercises so that helps alot also. It's been fun having my parents here from St. George for a few days. Their knees and hips hurt to so all three of us walk around like we're 80 years old. It's funny to watch! Have a great week and keep up the great work everyone!!!!

Earth Day!

Tomorrow, April 22, 2010 is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Go for a walk, jog or bike ride and explore and appreciate this beautiful earth of ours. Also, try to walk more and drive less to keep pollutants down.

Thank you to those who are making comments! I hope everyone is reading the comments as they are inspirational and it's fun to hear what others are doing to get fit. Thank you! Thank you!

We have almost reached 30% of our goal of Walking Across America. 874 miles (units) and going. We can and are achieving this. It's suppose to rain today so stairs, watch out! Here we come:)

Fitness Entry Form

Jeff placed the fitness entry form on the right side of the blog above my picture. This makes it very easy to put down your fitness accomplishments for Walking with Wendy Across America. We have already gone about 700 miles (units) and our goal is 3000 miles (units). I really believe we can achieve this by July 4th! We'll have a huge party and celebrate America's birthday and our achievement. I am amazed how many people are doing this. There are several walkers, joggers and bikers. We have swimmers and those doing elliptical. Cheryl is clogging (dancing) her way across America. Way to go everyone! Invite your friends and family to join us.

Be Gentle with Yourself

I didn't do any walking or climbing at work today as I worked half a day and on my break I was talking with HR about insurance information. It's ok if I miss a day or two, plus I think it's fine to let your body rest every once in awhile. I'm planning on walking around my neighborhood this evening as it's so beautiful today.

Thought for the day: Be as gentle with yourself as you are with others.

Great Job!

We are getting more people involved. Two more co-workers climbed 3 flights of stairs and walked 1/4 mile on our afternoon break today. Don't forget to post your daily fitness accomplishments.

Thought of the Day: The weather is beautiful, our bodies our beautiful so get out and enjoy this beautiful world!

Walking with Wendy Across America

OK People! Followers! Or whoever you are! This is it!! Linda and Jeff came up with this great idea now that so many of us are walking, biking or climbing stairs. As a team, we can walk across America! Jeff, Cheryl and Linda did the link below to keep track of your accomplishments each day and they'll all be added up and once we hit 3000 miles, we'll have a huge party. Put down the number of miles you walked, ran or rode your bike, or the number of flights of stairs you climbed or number of laps you swam, starting on April 1, 2010 as this is the first day of my blog. These will all be tallied up and with all of us working together we can accomplish this by the end of the year. I think it sounds like fun, hard work and a great way to get healthier. Save the link below in your favorites then at the end of each day just quickly jot down what you did. Let me know if you have problems with it then I'll let Jeff know.

Since I last posted it's been a busy week and my legs have been feeling weak. At work we are either climbing the stairs and/or walking outside depending on the weather. We have three more going with us on the walks and one more with the stairs and she did great! (I don't want to say any names until I get permission from them.) Last week my legs were so fatigued and they kept yelling at me "What in the world are you doing to us?" But, I push forward and I was blessed I was able to crash this past weekend so they are a little better. My one knee is not happy to walk or to climb but who said getting in shape is fun? NOT ME! But after climbing 6 flights of stairs or walking 1/2 mile on break I feel really exhausted AND good knowing I did something good and healthy for my body. We all have one body to take care of and I wish it was easier but sometimes I think all I'm responsible for is this 5 foot 2 inch box of body and I can't even take care of that. But, I'm changing that and so we all can.

I start doubting myself and listening to that negative voice in my head about losing weight then gaining it all back and more and letting people down if I don't accomplish this and making a fool of myself and what if the pain is too bad that I can't do as much as I need to. What if I fail again, but then I thought I'm a success at failing:) I could write an entire book of all the negative talk in my head... So I'm changing my thinking. I'm not doing this to lose weight. I'm not going to change my eating habits or weigh myself each week, I'm just going to get my muscles stronger and healthier and hope to walk the half marathon in November at Snow Canyon, St. George. It would be great if we all did it in November. I'll let you know when and where and this would be a great tribute to ourselves for the all the hard work we are doing right now. Just thinking about it exhausts me, but before I know it the time will be here and I better be ready and if not then I succeeded again at failing! See, there it goes again - I'm calling that negative voice PITY! ha ha Who wants to come to my pity party!! We all have our pity parties but lets work together to have a celebration party!

I've rambled on enough so I hope you aren't sleeping right now as you need to click on the link below to input your accomplishments. I don't have internet at home so I'm doing this at Linda's house so I'll try to be more consistent with the blogs. Pity says I have a blog for my body blob. Sometimes Pity can be hilarious! OK, enough! Thanks for all your support, love, comments and friendship. Love you all and I really hope you do the link below. Thanks Linda (my Master Motivator) Jeff, Cheryl, Kari and Kim and everyone who's been helping with this. Thanks to Janet, Julie, Sally, my co-workers who are supporting me at work with climbing and walking!
WE CAN DO THIS!! AMERICA HERE WE COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a link that we can now start keeping track of all our miles.

World Health Day

Today is World Health Day and all week is National Public Health Week so hopefully you are all feeling healthy and doing something healthy all week.

Today we (my co-workers, Janet, Julie and Sally and I) climbed another 6 flights of stairs on both breaks so we climbed 12 flights of stairs. Our legs felt very fatigued today and Janet was in alot of pain, but she pressed through it and did it! With the four of us we really help each other out. Julie skips a step each time and Sally and Janet ran up the stairs so I'll eventually be able to do that in about a year or so:) We're doing great and fighting thru the fatigue and pain. Hopefully in about a week or so we'll had another flight on each break. Great job ladies!!! When I'm in alot pain I think of my friend Tommy who has pain in his legs but he has no legs. It's called phantom pain so I'm grateful I have legs to feel the pain. :)

Wow! I'm learning alot about blogging. I'm mostly learning how little I know. Anyway, hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend! I had a great one with Vivian's family here from California and Linda's family and Craig & Brandi and her new little son and Randy's family came for dessert. It was great! I over did it though. Saturday I raked leaves, vacuumed and then the mopping killed me. Monday I was in alot of pain with my back and sciatica but I managed to climb 9 flights of stairs. My co-workers did 12 but the last three I was in too much pain so I had to stop. I'm glad I was able to do 9 flights but sometimes the pain is unbearable and I limped the rest of the day. That was yesterday and TODAY I did 13 flights of stairs (6 flights per break and we have 2 breaks). My co-workers and I did 6 flights of stairs and walking around the West side of the building (inside) in less than 10 minutes. We are improving! Then the last 3 flights, they, not me, ran up the stairs. HORRAY for them! I'm so proud of us and what we're accomplishing. Keep up the good work girls!

Thought for the day: We must press forward even through the pain!

Day 2

OK, I already reached my goal of climbing 3 flights of stairs without holding on. I did 4 flights of stairs today. I did 1 flight at home which has 13 steps, then 3 flights at work which has 23 steps per flight. I didn't realize there were that many more stairs at work. Yea! We did it. My co-workers went up all 11 flights of stairs without holding on so they are doing great! I'm leaving work now and will take the stairs so that will be 13 flights of stairs I climbed today! HEY, if I can do it, anyone can do it so get busy!:) Love you all and hope you all have a wonderful Easter to celebrate our Savior's Resurrection!
Thought for the day: You are the Perfect person to be YOU!

This is not an April Fool's joke...

Day one of my journey and I hope you join me! My name is Wendy and I auditioned for the Biggest Loser TV show last week in Salt Lake City, UT. I stood, not sat, but stood in line for 8 hours for a 15 second interview. I thought if I waited in line that long, I'm going all the way with an audition tape. My sister Linda video taped me, and her husband, Jeff edited and we made a video of me talking about some of the most personal things in my life. My weight, my fears and just being in front of a camera was a challenge but I did it. I'll attach a copy of the audition tape in an upcoming post.

Anyway, on my breaks at work I and a couple of co-workers try to walk around the building and parking lot for exercise. It's about 1/2 mile per break so we walk about one mile per day. This past week the wind was blowing so hard and it was so cold we decided to walk the stairs again, like we've done in the past. With the two breaks and leaving work from the basement, I walked UP 11 flights of stairs. My legs were jiggling like jello. The next day my legs were so sore but it was a good pain. I couldn't stand at the printer too long without my legs shaking, but I went UP 9 flights of stairs regardless of the pain from the day before. My sister was so proud of me that she said if I keep this up I could do the 1/2 marathon in St. George in November. So my journey begins!
